Our approach is 100% natural pain relief utilizing orthopedic acupuncture to target one’s injury. Acupuncture is a proven and effective therapy to help the body heal itself by releasing its own anti-inflammatory substances. Orthopedic acupuncture is a style of acupuncture targeting specific anatomical structures that are common pain generators such as fascia, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Movement assessment, range of motion, special test and palpation are implemented into each session to dictate treatment and progress.
Utilizing orthopedic acupuncture with physical therapy and personal training can be an extremely useful tool to reduce pain, improve range of motion and restore proper movement patterns. Vincent has worked closely with medical doctors, personal trainers, physical therapists, chiropractors and massage therapists in OC and the surrounding area for over 10 years.
New patient exam involves
- History: Discussion of the mechanism of injury, limited activities, aggravating and alleviating factors, previous treatment, diagnostics and observation etc.
- Observation and Inspection: Involves the inspection of the site of injury which involves assessing alignment, site of pain, gait and posture,
- Range of Motion: the observation of active range of motion and passive assisted range of motion can help the practitioner to understand the dysfunction of specific structures.
- Orthopedic Test: evaluation to identify a specific type of injury and aid into the diagnosis and treatment plan of an individual.
- Palpation: exploration through palpation allows the practitioner to pinpoint anatomical significant structures that are pain generators. These structures can consist of muscles, tendon, ligaments, nerves, and bone.
Each new patient is evaluated and recommended a treatment plan depending on their specific injury. Typically patients are seen 2x’s a week for 3 weeks. Most patients start to feel better within 1-3 visits. If a patient is not improving they are referred out for imaging or other appropriate specialists. Many patients receiving orthopedic acupuncture are seeing a physical therapist, personal trainer and/or chiropractor to incorporate corrective exercises. Corrective exercise and regular movement is an extremely important component of the rehabilitation process of all injuries.
Acupuncture is recognized by leading national and international health organizations to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of medical problems.
